Where AI Still Struggles:
Novel attacks. AI is trained on historical data. It's great at detecting variants of known threats. But genuinely new attack vectors? Humans still have the edge in creative threat modeling.
Business context. AI can tell you that a user account accessed 10,000 files in 5 minutes. It can't tell you whether that's a data exfiltration attempt or the CFO running a year-end audit script. You need human judgment for context.
Strategic decision-making. Should you shut down a production service during a suspected breach? Should you pay a ransom demand? Should you disclose an incident publicly before the investigation is complete? These are business decisions, not technical ones. AI can't make them.

4. Escalate edge cases. The AI should know its limits. If confidence is low, flag it for human review. Better to escalate too often than to act on bad data.
5. Iterate constantly. AI in security isn't set-and-forget. It's a continuous feedback loop. Review performance weekly. Tune rules. Refine thresholds. Improve over time.
Trust isn't built overnight. But once you have it, the leverage is extraordinary.
What Comes Next
The cybersecurity talent gap isn't going away. If anything, it's accelerating.
But here's the opportunity: the companies that embrace AI-augmented security teams will outperform competitors who are still trying to hire their way out of the problem.
They'll respond to incidents faster. They'll detect threats earlier. They'll scale security operations without scaling headcount. And they'll retain talent longer because their analysts won't be drowning in grunt work.
